I am an American student currently in Kunming. I have been in China for 2 semesters under a student visa but this is expiring at the end of this month (May). I am traveling to Laos on Sunday and was wondering if it was possible to get a tourist visa in Vientiane for at least 30 days if not 60 days (if possible). If so how long would this take and how much would it cost?

I have been in China for fours years: tourist, F, and now Z category visas.
Now, they tell me I'm too old (70) to renew Z visa (don't care as never worked). They also told me I have to depart China.
Question: Possible, with the proper documents, to get 6-months tourist visa (in Vientiane) -- this to return to China. And if so, how long and how much?
