I am an Italian citizen, will be in Japan, and arrive with a boat to Shanghai, where I will take a plane to fly back to Italy. Do I need a visa? where do I get one, and how long will it take to get one? thank you for your help.

I am planning on travelling to China in mi ictiber, and am curious if i need to have a visa in order to go to China. If i need to get a visa, what must i do to get a visa? and if i need to apply in person to get a visa, how do i get to the consulate by train from ibaraki prefecture? if you could get back to me as soon as possible, that would be great.
